Peter (Pedro) Jackson founded Pentagon Electronics in 1976 where at the time the main concern was the installation and maintaining (BVS) Cheque Verification Systems and CCTV systems for nearly all major financial institutes throughout South Africa.
All CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) cameras were Monochrome Videcon Tube and analog based and was the size of a shoebox and in that time era was accepted through out the world with a maximum resolution of 350 to 420tvl. (TV Line resolution) which at that time was used purely for surveillance on general movement of personnel.
In the early/mid 80’s Colour CCD (Silicon Chip Diode) cameras came on to the market and are now available from 700 to 1100 & 5mp TVL which makes it a super camera for high security situations, be it in the home, commercial, industrial or government sectors.
In 1982 more divisions were formed and acquired more branches which all fell under the Company name The Pentagon Group SA.
In time and as technology increased and the demand for higher security, our Company branched off in the direction of Access Control System networks in 1985. With the advancement of electronics, vertically all CCTV and Access Controlled systems can be controlled over the Internet like opening doors or motorized slide gates or have full control of DVR recording and CCTV cameras. We are now in a position to offer full range of PTZ (Pan, Tilt and Zoom) CCTV cameras which have the zoom facility to read a vehicle number plate at 8Km during the day in full colour, detect motion at 5Km at night B&W and give positive I.D. at 1.2Km at night in B&W. This type of network can be installed on a mountaintop with its own Power Supply, which can be supplied from solar panels and wind generators. All video transmission can be done via Internet Protocol (IP) and can be viewed on your office or home PC or by your Cell Phone.
